About Us

AllCourse is a community of teachers and schools offering (mostly) for-credit online courses

Teachers create profiles listing their professional backgrounds. School officials and parents can search profiles and find teachers offering courses they need or want. With AllCourse, schools can instantly solve teacher shortage problems, teachers can earn meaningful income, and students can take subjects they’d never otherwise have access to.

Teachers

  • Create searchable profile pages providing credentials, experience, and sample videos
  • Create listings for upcomingcourses, allowing students to enroll

School officials

  • Buy seats in listed courses. Your students will join students from other schools in the course
  • OR, browse teacher profiles and hire teachers to teach online courses for just your school
  • Post specs for particular online courses you want to offer, and have teachers apply to teach them

Parents & Students:

  • Search course listings to find the exact subjects, schedules & class sizes that work for you
  • Confirm that your school will pay for the course and give it credit
The AllCourse team is composed almost entirely of current and former teachers! Our founder previously founded adaptive learning giant, Knewton (acquired by Wiley), and autograding pioneer, Bakpax (acquired by Teachers Pay Teachers). Everyone at AllCourse is passionate about equity and access. We believe that teachers should make more money, students should have more choices of subjects, and admins should have an easier time finding great teachers!

Jose began his career at Kaplan Test Prep where he led a company-wide effort that developed the modern Kaplan test prep course. He’s the only person ever to develop test-taking strategies so effective that ETS was compelled to remove an entire section from one of their exams.

In 2008, Jose founded Knewton, effectively launching today’s adaptive learning industry. He invented and built Knewton’s core AI product and holds several key patents in adaptive learning. (Knewton is now a division of the publishing giant, Wiley.)

In 2018, Jose created Bakpax, using two AIs — computer vision and machine learning — to grade any free-written short answers (including graphs) by holding a phone over them. (Bakpax was acquired by Teachers Pay Teachers in 2021.)

Jose has a BA in Philosophy from Carleton College and an MBA from Harvard. He’s a World Economic Forum at Davos “Technology Pioneer” and has been featured on the Today Show, Time, Newsweek, The Economist, Forbes, Fortune, Bloomberg, Fast Company, and many others.

Our Values

Have you ever heard the saying that “People aren’t what they say; people are what they do”? At many companies, the “Values” are aspirational at best. Not here. The below values are what we do every day at AllCourse.
01

People

Delighting teachers, school officials, students, and parents drives every decision we make. We know we don’t have all the answers, and seek our users’ help to keep improving the products they love and rely on. And we’ll always protect their rights and give them the control they deserve.
02

Bravery

We seek to be brave, both emotionally and intellectually. We’re not afraid to think big and hold strong opinions, but we hold these views lightly, and are brave enough to change our minds when given new information or a new way of looking at things. Our communication is direct and plain. Arguing is a good thing (so long as it’s done respectfully and constructively).
03

Ownership & Urgency

We behave as true owners, with a bias for action, seeking constant improvement. We try to test, learn and iterate, no matter how big or small the job. We want to do it as quickly as possible. We understand how the constraints of frugality encourage innovation and creativity. We don’t assume someone else will fix it. We dive in.
04

Compassion & Respectfulness

Working with people who care about other people is of utmost importance to us. We believe in empathy, patience, and respectfulness. Each of us should exude warmth, and be available and welcoming to those who seek our help. We are present in the moment. We are calm when interacting with one another. We want everyone to feel heard.
05

Information-Seeking

Rational decision-making is critical to how we operate. We are always curious and willing to dive deep into the data to validate assumptions. God, not the devil, is in the details. We actively attempt to measure everything. We follow up. We don’t passively seek to confirm hunches. We don’t take the easy way out and hope problems go away by themselves. We know that problems go away because we act like owners; we dive in and figure it out.
06

Fun

We feel lucky that we get to do something so cool for a living, and it shows in our sense of play and positivity. We don’t believe in gossip, office politics, or general negativity. We assume good intentions. And we like to have fun! Fun is good.
07

Empowerment

We don’t define solutions. We define problems. We believe in crystal clear focus on the question “what exactly do we want to solve for?” When smart people agree on the nature of a problem to be solved, they will then produce sensible — and sometimes wonderful — solutions. We want to work on a team where people have agency and can make a difference every day.
08

Clarity

Clarity of purpose prevents dysfunction. When company goals are crystal clear, we all “row in the same direction.” Clarity of thought helps us perform better and faster. When we are clear in our written and oral communication, we increase our colleagues’ comprehension and save their time. Clear communication improves the exchange of ideas and improves performance. We believe in clear goals, clear performance feedback, and clear communication.
09

Diversity

We believe diversity makes us stronger. It facilitates and encourages several of our core values. All other things being equal, a diverse team will always outperform a homogeneous one because the diverse team will know more, empathize more, and see possibilities invisible to the homogeneous one. Diversity also makes the workplace more fun!
